About Us

What is U3A?

U3A stands for University of the Third Age.  The idea began in 1972 in Toulouse, France.  Seniors attended university lectures as passive listeners.  When the idea crossed to Britain the concept changed and it became a sharing of ideas, skills and knowledge by any interested person.  A member could be a tutor one day, a class member the next and then a volunteer the next.

It is this model that has been adopted in Australia but including more social activities.

U3A Kyneton was established in 2005.  The group started with 50 members and there are now over 350 members.

What do we do?

The courses cover a wide range, for the language lovers there are three levels of French, a beginner’s, intermediate and advanced, Film Club, and a weekly dog walking group are just some examples.

Currently, we have a popular bushwalking group as well as keen Mah Jong and Table Tennis players. Social activities include a weekly coffee club and a monthly lunch club with visits to local restaurants.

Who can join?

U3A Kyneton welcomes those who are retired or semi-retired.  Members can be new to the area or just wanting to make new friends.

All you need is to have an interest in sharing community activities with new and old friends.  Whilst this may mean some level of learning, the main aim is to have fun with people who have the same interests, enjoying social contact and adding more stimulation and involvement to your life.  You don’t even have to make a commitment to attend every week.

Note:  There are NO educational qualifications needed, expected, or given.

Meet new friends and have fun while learning or enjoying social activities

Now you can catch up on so much you haven’t had time for and U3A Kyneton is here for you.

Our members share their skills and life experiences.  Our learners teach and our teachers learn, and there’s no distinction between them.

If your goal is lifelong learning and well-being, U3A Kyneton can help you achieve it.

U3A Kyneton is a member of the U3A Network Victoria Inc, which aim to promote a lifetime of learning and well-being.  New members and guests are always welcome to attend our Friday gathering at 2.00 pm at the Red Brick Hall, 23 Yaldwyn Street West Kyneton 3444
